Morning Market Pulse — Futures Show Their Hand Early

Don't let the quiet open fool you; the futures market is telegraphing a strong hand for the bulls today.

The tape is waking up with a clear message: the bulls are in control this morning. SPY futures are up nearly a full point before the bell, and it's not just a few names doing the heavy lifting. This looks like a genuine risk-on appetite.

The Setup: Bulls Stack the Deck

We're seeing SPY futures already up 0.94% from the open to where we sit now. That's a solid move before the cash market even gets a look. Combine that with a news sentiment score firmly in bullish territory, based on over 200 headlines, and you've got a backdrop that favors continuation.

The breadth tells the real story here. Of the 23 mega-cap names I track, 15 are showing green and only 8 are down. That's not a market being pushed around by a single stock; it's a broad move. When the big boys are mostly in agreement, it's tough to argue with the direction.

Volatility Taking a Hit

One of the most telling signs this morning is the VIXY (the volatility ETF) getting clocked, down almost 3% intraday. Volatility gets crushed when confidence is high and traders are buying up everything. It's the market's way of saying, "nothing to see here, folks, just keep buying."

Where the Crowd Gets it Wrong

The trap here is complacency. Everyone sees green and thinks it's a guaranteed ride. But the easy money often gets made in the pre-market. Chasing a move like this after a big gap up means you're paying up for someone else's good entry. I'm watching for how this strength holds once the initial buying flurry dies down after the open.

I'd want to see SPY hold above its initial gap-up level. If it starts to fade back and fill the gap, that's a signal that the early enthusiasm might be burning out. For now, the path of least resistance is higher, but don't get caught buying the absolute top of the morning pop.

The Playbook for the Open

My read is clear: the market wants to go higher. The conviction is strong, sitting at a 1 on my scale (highest possible). Watch for rotation into names that haven't moved as much yet, or for a retest of the pre-market highs. If the bid stays firm, this rally has legs. If we see any weakness, I'll be looking for where the buyers step back in – that's your true conviction point.
